Thomas Ozichukwu Portfolio
ThomasCode Portfolio is a \full-stack personal platform\ designed to do more than display a résumé. It allows visitors to explore my experience, projects, skills, and technical background while giving me the ability to manage and publish content through a private administration dashboard. The current web version uses Next.js, TypeScript, Firebase, Firestore, Firebase Storage, and server-side AI integration. The original Flutter mobile application represents the earlier generation of the platform and continues to exist separately from the current web architecture. This project demonstrates how I approached the gradual evolution of a personal product rather than treating the rebuild as only a visual redesign.
Problem and context
The earlier version of the portfolio was built around a Flutter mobile application connected to a PHP and MySQL REST API. It successfully demonstrated dynamic project data and cross-platform development, but the content workflow became difficult to extend as the portfolio grew. Adding new projects, updating experience, managing images, or creating richer case studies required more manual work. The original structure was also primarily designed around the mobile experience, while the web platform needed to become the main way recruiters, clients, and engineering teams interacted with my work. I rebuilt the web platform to create a more maintainable content system. The new version separates portfolio content from the user interface, supports structured project case studies, provides authenticated administration, manages media through Firebase Storage, and introduces an AI assistant that can answer questions using live portfolio data. The mobile application still represents the previous architecture, so the project also became an exercise in staged system evolution. The new web platform could move forward while the mobile client remained operational on its existing technology stack.
Outcome
The rebuilt ThomasCode Portfolio is now a dynamic web platform with a public portfolio, structured project case studies, an authenticated administration area, Firebase-backed content, media uploads, and a server-side AI assistant. Visitors can explore my professional background, review detailed technical work, and ask Tommy questions about my experience and projects. Administrators can update portfolio content without modifying the public page source for every change. The current web version represents the modern direction of the project. The Flutter mobile application remains associated with the previous PHP and MySQL architecture, making this an ongoing platform evolution rather than a completed replacement of every client.
